Main Characters

Who are the main characters in the novel? Do you like them? Why or why not? What is special about them? What do they reveal about the universal human experience?

Guy Montag: Montag is the protagonist. I like him because he is unique and views the world differently from others in the novel. He does not think like the ‘robot’ in the society. He attempts to find an accurate answer to his question. “Do I want to be this person? Are these things meaningful?” Even he is sometimes doing illegal or dangerous acts his curiosity gave me inspiration. He dislikes his occupation which he founds dull and meaningless. Although he had difficulty deciding what to do his actions of finding meaningful life impressed me. He is my hero, from a dull fireman, to a new, curious guy. He reveals the universal human experience that curiosity makes them try to find what they want to know. Curiosity makes people want to find it until they knew the solution.

Captain Beatty: This is my least favorite character. Once, he was a absorbed reader in literatures. Then he seems to hate books because they are complex. The most interesting thing about Beatty is that the fact although is well-read he believe books are complex but TV, games, and comics are straightforward and fun.
I do not understand even he read books why does he enjoy the pleasures and without worries? He uses Guy Montag as if he tries to persuade Montag to believe his words are true. About the major universal human experience he reveals there are evil people who persuades or give “wrong ideas” to people. Captain Beatty read many literatures but he gave the wrong idea that books are complex and it is dangerous to us. He seems like he doesn't wants the truth to be unaware.
